Anne was born and continues to live in the outport fishing community of Lord's Cove on the Burin Peninsula. Anne's desire to hook rugs was rekindled when she retired from the family grocery business after twenty six years.
Her ideas come from stories told to her by her mother, from photographs and from her observation of everyday life around her. She loves to incorporate Newfoundland themes into her work and is determined to preserve the traditional way of rug hooking.
Anne is a self taught craftsperson. Although she has no formal artistic training, she designs each rug herself beginning with a free hand drawing on bleached linen. In keeping with the tradition of using recycled fabrics from garments and other sources, Anne then hand cuts strips of fabric in different widths to suit her design. She hooks in the traditional style and achieves depth and texture in her rugs by varying the size of the loops to create an uneven surface. All of this ensures every rug is an original.
